Seattle Reign and US U-23 National Team Soccer Player, MPG Messenger
Kate Deines' journey to eventually became a nationally ranked, professional soccer player seemed destined from a very early age: Upon receiving a soccer ball for her first birthday from her grandmother, she squealed with delight and it would seem the die had been cast, her fate was sealed. She actually started playing a few years later at the age of 4 in a program offered by her local high school in Portland, Oregon and would go on to play at elite, top-tier levels throughout her youth including Premiere from 10 to 17, winning 3 out of 4 possible state championships during high school and on Olympic Development Program teams since the age of 10.
She eventually earned a full soccer scholarship to the University of Washington where she achieved numerous awards and accolades including two-time Gatorade State Player of the Year, All-PAC 10 First Team, Soccer Buzz First Team Freshman All-American plus also capturing the record for most games played and started at 86, to name a few.
Some other highlights of her soccer career to date have been participating in the following:
- traveling to Japan with the U-16 Youth National Team.
- traveling to Brazil for a foreign tour with the University of Washington Women's Soccer Team.
- traveling to Sweden with the U-23 Women's National Team for a 3 nations tournament.
- playing professionally in Iceland, with Stjarnan FC, where she was instrumental in helping her team win its first national championship and also earning the squad a place in the UEFA Champions League.
With so many different opportunities abroad, Kate feels truly blessed to have had the chance to travel extensively playing the sport she loves.
Kate is currently a defender in the professional National Women's Soccer League for the Seattle Reign, allowing her to remain in the city she adores.
Kate's inclusion in our Spring 2013 Editorial Campaign marks the first time an individual playing a team sport has been added to our MPG Messenger roster.
'MPG allows me to workout, train, or be on-the-go in comfort but, more importantly, to do so in style! If I could wear MPG from head to toe on a daily basis, I most definitely would.'
