When it comes to product, it’s our mission to create clothing that has the smallest impact on the environment possible, is designed and built to live in our customers’ wardrobes for years, and is priced to be accessible to everyday people.
How do we do it? By relying on sustainable fabrics like organic cotton, recycled yarns, and cellulose fibres, and by consciously deciding to absorb the cost of these materials rather than pushing that burden on to our customers.
RESPONSIBILITY: PRODUCT
(Click on a menu item below for an in-depth look)
Sustainability means nothing if you can’t back it up.
That’s why we implement a 7-tier traceability program tracking our sustainable cotton from garment manufacturer all the way back to the cotton farm, to ensure it doesn’t come from restricted production zones, and is sourced sustainably at every step of production.
7-Tier Traceability Audits
All of the cotton Mondetta/MPG uses in its garments undergoes stringent, 7-tier audits to ensure traceability and verifiability which allows us to back up and support every claim we make regarding our sustainable cotton.
How It Works:
The seven step process is as follows:
- Farm
- Aggregator
- Cotton Ginner
- Yarn Spinning
- Fabric Production
- Dyeing
- Garment Manufacturing
Why We Do It:
By tracking the chain of custody of the cotton in its various forms throughout the sourcing to manufacturing process, MPG is able to confidently state our cotton is sustainable.
How We’re Improving:
Mondetta/MPG will conduct in-depth DNA testing to identify the origin of the cotton it uses in its apparel. This will allow the company to determine whether the raw material has been sourced from a restricted zone, as per the US Forced Labor Prevention Act.
Cellulose Fibers
When it comes to product, it’s our mission to create clothing that has the smallest impact on the environment possible, is designed and built to live in our customers’ wardrobes for years, and is priced to be accessible to everyday people.
How do we do it? By relying on sustainable fabrics like organic cotton, recycled yarns, and cellulose fibres and consciously deciding to absorb the cost of these materials rather than pushing that burden on our customers.
Why Recycled?
Recycled yarn production requires far fewer resources including 59% less energy than new fibres and generates 32% less carbon dioxide emissions.
Recycled yarns, including polyester and nylon, use converted plastic waste instead of creating virgin iterations reducing the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfills.
Same Quality, Less Impact
The difference between recycled yarns and virgin ones is negligible; the quality level is almost exactly the same. And using recycled yarns means less crude oil extraction for garment production.
Aiming for 100% Recycled
Looking ahead, the company is aiming to reach 100% recycled yarns but is presently limited from doing so and must still use virgin yarns in some products. Each season, however, we’re increasing the total amount of recycled yarns used and will continue striving toward the goals we’ve set out for ourselves.
The Responsible Down Standard (RDS) is an international, voluntary standard that addresses animal welfare in the duck and geese supply chain and the chain of custody of down and feather material from certified farms to the final product.
The Responsible Down Standard aims to ensure that down and feathers come from animals that are not subjected to unnecessary harm.
The RDS focuses on protecting the Five Freedoms of the Animal:
- Freedom from hunger and thirst
- Freedom from discomfort
- Freedom from pain, injury, or disease
- Freedom to express normal behaviour
- Freedom from fear and distress
Mondetta/MPG uses RDS-certified down in all of its cold-weather outerwear.
What’s better than making clothes? Growing them!
With 50% of byproducts used to power production plants, 40% used for dissolving pulp in the manufacturing process, and 10% reused by the food industry, TENCEL™ is one of the most sustainable fabric options on the market. That's why we partner with Lenzing to offer clothing made with TENCEL™ Modal fibres that are extracted from naturally grown and responsibly managed beechwood and processed in an environmentally sustainable manner throughout the pulp-to-fibre process.
See Our Tencel™ Feature Here →Packaging & Trims
We have to ship our products to you in something and are focused on making those materials as sustainable as possible.
Look, we hate unnecessary packaging as much as you, but sometimes it’s a necessary evil. That’s why our polybags are made from 100% recycled post-consumer materials. Plus, we offer a polybag recycling program for consumers who don’t have local access to best-in-class recycling options. It’s a good start, but we know there’s more to do, and we’re constantly on the lookout for even more environmentally friendly packaging options.

Packaging Recycling
All unnecessary plastic bags in our production and delivery process are recycled at our facility through a special program with our waste contractor TerraCycle® to reduce waste and improve recycling rates before our product reaches our customers.
Garment Bags
Our individual plastic bags are made from 100% recycled post-consumer materials to reduce our environmental impact wherever possible.
Opening ourselves up to OEKO-TEX® assessments allows us to ensure that our products are safe for our customers to use. OEKO-TEX® tests for harmful substances, such as heavy metals, pesticides, and carcinogenic dyes, that can be present in textile products. By certifying our products through OEKO-TEX®, we can assure our customers that our products are safe and free from harmful substances.
In addition to product safety, we also work with OEKO-TEX® to improve the sustainability performance of our supply chain. The certification process evaluates the sustainability performance of textile production processes, including energy use, water consumption, and chemical management. By working with OEKO-TEX®, we can identify areas for improvement in our supply chain and work towards more sustainable practices.
Ultimately, we work with OEKO-TEX® because it aligns with our company values and mission to create high-quality activewear that is made in a responsible and sustainable way. By being certified by OEKO-TEX®, we can demonstrate our commitment to product safety and sustainability to our customers and our workers.
Tri-Branded Packaging
All tri-branded polybags used for delivery to end consumer are made from recycled materials to reduce our environmental impact.
What’s Next?
Sustainable packaging remains one of the biggest challenges for all manufacturers. Any bag or box (no matter how recycled or biodegradable they are) is always worse than no package at all. That’s why we’re working with factories to reduce unnecessary individual garment bags, recycling unnecessary packaging at our facilities, and always looking for more sustainable alternatives.
