Company Statement – Mondetta Solidarity Day
Mondetta will be closed on Monday, June 21st, 2021 in Honor of Juneteenth & National Indigenous Peoples Day, which falls on Saturday, June 19th this year.
This year, and every year going forward, Mondetta will be recognizing Juneteenth, alongside National Indigenous Peoples Day, differently. This Monday, June 21st, 2021, we have decided to close for the day to properly recognize these important holidays and appreciate your understanding as this may result in a 1-day delay in shipping orders.
Saturday, June 19th marks Juneteenth, a holiday which commemorates the effective ending of slavery in the United States and celebrates Black history and culture and Sunday June 21st marks National Indigenous Peoples Day which recognizes the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples in Canada.
We know that the observance of these important holidays will look different for each employee but our desire is to allow each person the time to focus on reflection, education and advocacy, while continuing important conversations on racial inequalities that remain deeply rooted into the fabric of our society.
We understand that the racial anguish we are currently experiencing is not a new phenomenon, but rather a product of years of systemic racism and generational oppression within our country. Over the past several weeks, however, a hopeful sentiment that this time around, real and lasting change must come, has taken root.
We have much work to do as we move forward together but recognize this opportunity to better commemorate and celebrate both Black and Indigenous history and culture as a step forward in our ongoing journey towards racial equality – on a local, national, and global scale.
Thank you for being a loyal customer and valued member of our community. Together, we are making a difference.
