The Designer responsible for the development of new designs to enhance the company’s business, market share and profitability. Based on sales data and market research, Designers forecast future trends and help formulate the company’s product strategy. In line with the strategy the Designer develops new collections starting with CADs and then making physical samples partnering with suppliers, manufacturers, customers and other departments. The Designer works with our internal teams and customers to develop custom product for each specific brand.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design and develop men’s & women’s active and lifestyle collections for both private label and in house brands
  • Create line sheets for technical design and for offshore factory use
  • Create storyboards/inspiration boards for upcoming collections
  • Forecast fabrication, silhouette, print, colour, and trends
  • Follow through from design creation to sample development
  • Work with offshore vendors and manufacturers
  • Responsible for lab dips, fabric construction feedback, and approvals
  • Work closely with sales and production teams on an ongoing basis to ensure the designs suit the clients, consumer, market, and end user

Qualifications

  • University graduate in Fashion Arts or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience
  • Must have expert knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Possesses fibre, yarn and fabric knowledge with a key emphasis on performance fabrications
  • Knowledge of garment construction and fit

Fabric Specialist

The Fabric Specialist manages the research and development processes for seasonal and core fabrics, providing technical fabric assistance to Designers and sourcing teams in support of product development.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Identifies the latest fabric trends, developments, innovations, and potential new fabrics
  • Creates seasonal fabric trend presentations to share with designers
  • Consults and advises designers on their selection of fabrics to be researched or developed
  • Proactively identifies potential problems on fabric being chosen by the designers
  • Provides technical fabric consultation to design and initiates development of new concept fabrics when existing fabrics do not meet objectives
  • Carries out a range of technical, investigative, and quality-control work to make sure the end-product performs to specifications

Qualifications

  • BA / BS in textiles or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Requires an extensive practical knowledge of textile end item design practice and method, physical properties of textile materials, fabrication, construction techniques and production methods

Pattern Maker / Fit Technician

The Technical Designer works closely with the Designers, Buyers & Product Development Managers to execute the technical development of products/programs. In addition TDs work closely with manufacturers & vendors to ensure product specifications, fit & construction meet quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates with customers and Sales department to understand the fit requirements for a program. (1%)
  • Creates measurement specifications working with New Development and Technical Design (15%)
  • Works with pattern makers to assist in developing pattern. (2%)
  • Conducts fittings, identifies and analyzes fit/pattern issues and provides solutions for sample improvement. (15%)
  • Create fit sketches to aid the vendor in correcting issues (3%)
  • Communicates with overseas vendors to resolve fit and construction issues, following up to ensure all development/production fit details and specifications are being respected. (10%)
